From February 1st 2020 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) moves from €9.80 to €10.10 per hour. This increase was outlined in Budget 2020 but, initially, the increase was suspended pending clarity around Brexit.
The Government clearly had a February election in mind for some time as they swiftly confirmed this increase in costs on employers would come into effect from 1st February, affecting approximately 127,000 workers, a week before the election!
A reminder that last year changes were made to the training rates below the NMW, making them age-specific to 18 and 19-year-olds.
From February 1st 2020:
Adult NMW - €10.10
Under 18 years - €7.07 (70% of NMW)
Training rate 18-year-old - €8.08 (80% of NMW)
Training rate 19-year-old - €9.09 (90% of NMW)
Under 18 rate - €7.07
